Political happenings

KARACHI: The rapidity of political happenings in Pakistan is mind-boggling. Until a week ago, the chairman of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Farooq Sattar, and the chairman of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), Mustafa Kamal, were together with their renewed enthusiasm to deliver to Pakistanis what no other party has been able to in the past 70 years. However, just after 24 hours this show of unity and enthusiasm evaporated into thin air. At a press conference, the MQM-P chairman said that the two parties were not joining hands to contest the elections together and he claimed that the establishment was responsible for their apparently forced alliance.

Only a few days ago, the same PSP and Mustafa Kamal were eager to join hands with a faction which it now claims to be a threat to the national security of the country, even when the MQM-P has cut off its ties with Altaf Hussain. During his recent visit to Quetta, the former mayor of Karachi once again tried to negate his image of one hailing from and serving the Mohajirs only and unofficially campaigned for his party in Balochistan’s provincial capital.
