Dwayne Johnson's daughter Simone becomes Golden Globe ambassador

Actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's 16-year-old daughter Simone Garcia Johnson has been named the Golden Globe Ambassador for the upcoming 75th annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president Meher Tatna announced Simone's name on Wednesday. In the role, she will partner with GlobalGirl Media, an organisation that encourages aspiring female journalists from disadvantaged areas and provides them with tools to help them in the industry.

The HFPA will support the endeavor through their annual grant giving work. "As we look forward to the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) members decided to expand this role to embody the HFPA's philanthropic efforts year round," Meher said. "The honouree will now be referred to as the Golden Globe Ambassador and we could not think of a better representative than Simone to carry on this tradition, as her values closely reflect everything the HFPA stands for."

In her speech, Simone said, "I've been lucky enough to grow up in a household with strong role models and feel so honoured to represent the HFPA for its 75th Anniversary. As the newly minted Golden Globe Ambassador, I hope to serve as a role model to young people everywhere and empower them to speak out on issues they are passionate about."

She is Dwayne's daughter by his first wife Dany Garcia, whom he was married to from 1997 to 2007 and who is his manager. Dwayne has been married to Lauren Hashian since the year he and Dany divorced, and he and Lauren have a one-year-old daughter called Jasmine.

Simone expressed his gratitude as she posts a picture on Instagram with caption, "Finding words to describe exactly how I feel right now is a bit hard. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you to the HFPA, my parents, and everyone else who has helped this all come together. I feel so blessed to be a part of this incredible journey and be known as the first Golden Globe Ambassador.”

Dwyane was thrilled that his daughter was chosen for the honour this year. "We're extremely proud and thankful for this moment. Congratulations to our daughter on being selected as the very first #GoldenGlobes AMBASSADOR," he wrote on Instagram. "Thank you to our friends and colleagues of the #HFPA for recognising her value and voice. An amazing and cool honour to rep our community and the #Globes75.”

The Golden Globe Ambassador replaces the honourary title Miss/Mr. Golden Globe, which was given to the son or daughter of the entertainment industry's most respected talents.

Sylvester Stallone's daughters Scarlet, Sophia and Sistine were the prior holders of the role, which until now was called Miss Golden Globe, according to People. Sophia, 21, Sistine, 19, and Scarlet, 15, are all Sly's daughters by his third wife Jennifer Flavin, whom he has been married to for 20 years.

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 7, 2018.
