Two political workers among 11 suspects taken into custody in Karachi

Arrested men handed over to police for further interrogation

KARACHI: The Rangers claimed to have arrested on Wednesday over 11 suspects, including political workers, during ongoing targeted raids in parts of the metropolis.

Two political workers were arrested during separate raids conducted by the Rangers in Awami Colony and Korangi Industrial Area. The suspects were identified as Kamran and Ishtiaq Ahmed alias Alam.

The Rangers spokesperson said that the suspects were affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement - London and involved in various cases of crime, including targeted killings and wall-chalking.

Two more suspected criminals were arrested during a targeted raid conducted in the Malir area. The suspects were identified as Shahzaib alias Tillo and Obaid Iqbal. According to the paramilitary spokesperson, the suspects belonged to the Gholu group of Lyari gangsters, adding that they were involved in various cases of crime.

Meanwhile, five suspected criminals were arrested during targeted raids conducted in different localities, including Khokhrapar and Korangi Industrial Area. They were identified as Sufiyan, Ahad alias Saghir, Shahid Lodhi, Zeeshan Ahmed alias Vicky and Waheed alias Jamal. The Rangers spokesperson said that the suspects were involved in targeted killings, extortion, china-cutting, wall chalking, land grabbing, bank robberies and setting vehicles on fire during strike calls.

Another suspect, who was later identified as Ali Sher, was arrested during snap-checking in the Zaman Town area. The Rangers spokesperson said Sher was involved in various cases of street crime.

The arrested suspects were later handed over to the police for further interrogation.

A notorious gangster of Lyari was also arrested during a raid conducted by intelligence agencies near Mauripur Truck Stand. He was identified as Mansoor Mama. Police officials said that the suspect was trying to flee to Balochistan when he was arrested. He was accused of attacking a passenger bus, targeted killings and kidnapping for ransom cases.
