QUETTA: Many cities of Balochistan, including the provincial capital, on Monday faced the winter’s first rain and snow after more than eight months. The change in climate has resulted in a decrease in temperature in many parts of Balochistan.

Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Chaghi, Dalbandin, Nokandi, Taftan, Sibi, Chaman, Zhob, Killa Abdullah, Killa Saifullah were hit with rain while Loralai and Ziarat faced the season’s first snowfall.

The cold caused low gas pressure in most parts of Quetta where people were compelled to ignite wood and use gas cylinders. A majority also turned to cylinder shops to fill their cylinders as low pressure caused them difficulties in cooking food.

Quetta as it once was

“From the past four years we have been facing low gas pressure and using wood to warm our children, I don’t know what will happen in peak winter season because from the start there is no gas in our stoves,” said Quetta resident Anwer Sultan Chughtai.

Muhammad Ayoub, who was standing in a queue to fill his gas cylinder, said today we witnessed minor increase in cold and that resulted in low gas pressure, “I urge the government to install new pipelines across the city that could increase gas pressure.”

Meanwhile, the provincial disaster management authority has established control rooms to monitor if there were any rain damages across the province.
