Govt is working to fill gaps in health services, says Nazir

LAHORE: Primary and Secondary Healthcare Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir has said that Punjab Government was trying to fill the gaps in health sector which were prevailing for the last 70 years.

He said that individual act of negligence spoiled the image of the whole department. He said that the night duty timing of gynecologists will be monitored strictly.

The minister said that the department had observed health week this year from August 15th to 19th during which 438 screening camps were set up in which 3,60,000 people were screened across Punjab.

He expressed these views while addressing the report launching ceremony of Health week 2017 in a local hotel on Sunday.

Nazir revealed that the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to divide the health department into two separate departments proved to increase the service delivery and efficiency in health sector.

On this occasion, Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education minister said that the Punjab Government under the vision of CM was spreading the network of hospitals and health facilities in the whole province. He said that the government had spent billions on health compared to that in other provinces. The minister said that best health facilities were being provided in tehsil and district headquarters hospitals.

At the occasion of Report launching Ceremony, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) Secretary Ali Jan Khan briefed the participants about the results of health week report.

Khan said that report findings of this would be helpful for the prevention and cure of communicable and non-communicable disease.

‘Hospitals are not being privatised’

Members of international health organisations and donor partners appreciated the P&SHD for initiating such a positive step which was directly related to the health of poorest strata of the society.

Health Special Secretary Dr Faisal Zahoor, additional secretaries, project heads, international development partners, Dr Yahya Gulzar, Dr Aslam Chahudry, Dr Tahir Manzoor, Dr Eais Muhammad, members of Provincial Assembly and officers from health department were also present at this occasion.
