Zulqernain vows return, despite threats

Former Pakistani wicket keeper says he has not cancelled his return as reported in the media.

Former Pakistani wicket keeper Zulqarnain Haider has announced that he will return Pakistan according to plan and he has not cancelled his return as reported in the media.

Talking to Express News, Haider said the government has promised to provide security to him and his family, which is why he will return according to plan.

He said that he believes in the government's assurances, although he declined to announce the exact date of his return.

Haider had  reportedly recieved another threatening call on Wednesday, following which Scotland Yard had enhanced his security. Haider had contacted Interior Minister Rehman Malik and asked him to guarantee his security.

Haider had deserted the team in Dubai during the Pakistan-South Africa one-day series, fleeing to London after claiming to have received threatening messages from an unknown source. He subsequently announced his retirement and sought asylum in England.

According to the PCB, Haider, on his return from England – after withdrawing his application for asylum –has to appear before the PCB committees: Disciplinary, Interrogative and Integrity, before he can be cleared for selection at any level in Pakistan.
