ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has announced that overbilling, incorrect meter reading and fake billing will not be tolerated and told power distribution companies to immediately remove the employees involved in these practices.

In his first interaction with CEOs of all distribution companies, Leghari, while speaking through a video link, commended his predecessors for having made great efforts in executing major electricity generation projects. He said he would not let their efforts go in vain and take steps to pass benefits of these efforts on to the grass-roots level.

The minister urged the CEOs to ensure correct billing of consumers and prevent exploitative practices while categorically stating that only merit and hard work would be considered in hiring and promotion of officers and employees instead of external influence.

He asked the CEOs to pass the message of transparency on to their respective staff.

Appreciating the performance of the CEOs, Leghari said the current leadership was the finest in the country and asked for lower tiers of the companies to be filled also with the most suitable personnel.

Continuing with his policy statements, Leghari said consumers would be facilitated at all costs in the new setup.
