KARACHI: The Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) has urged the federal and Sindh governments to formulate a new education policy on a priority basis while keeping the existing policies in view.

PSP General Secretary Raza Haroon said on Monday that in 1998, the then government had pledged to invest 4% of the gross domestic product in the education sector, but unfortunately, neither it nor the proceeding government took any interest in fulfilling this promise.

He cited the recent international watchdog reports on education in the country and said that the sector was deteriorating due to a lack of interest from the rulers and the political parties.

He urged that the education and health sectors be purged of politics and goals should be set to uplift their status by taking all the stakeholders onboard. "There is a need for change and everyone should work for nation building," he commented.

Meanwhile, the party issued a visit plan of its chairperson, Mustafa Kamal, and president, Anis Kaimkhani, to rural Sindh that starts from today (October 10) and will continue till October 16. A statement read that Kamal will visit Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar and Thar districts.

The PSP leadership is scheduled to hold meetings with the public, businessmen and other stakeholders during their visits.
