ISLAMABAD: Spin legend Saqlain Mushtaq is mystified at being constantly snubbed for coaching positions within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) setup, even though he feels he is the most qualified coach in the country.

"If you go by merit and experience, I am the most qualified coach in Pakistan considering I am a UK level 3 coach," Saqlain, who has served as England's spin consultant, told The Daily Express. "I'm not saying this because I want a job but because there needs to be a system based on merit."

The 40-year-old former cricketer reiterated that he isn't after employment opportunities as he has plenty of options in the international market.

But the fact that his country can't benefit from him is a source of constant disappointment for him.

"If I wanted to get a job then the entire world is open for me," he said. "But that's not the point. As a Pakistani, my heart beats for the country and I feel I am the most qualified person for the job. I am disappointed not because I haven't been given the opportunity but because I can't serve Pakistan."

The 'doosra' mastermind, however, says he will never even consider the option of criticising the PCB for his personal gains, even though he had been advised to do so.

"Back in my PTV days it was said that if I bash the PCB and the incumbents or use a political angle only then will I get an opportunity," he recalled. "It was quite disappointing to hear."
