LAHORE: To tackle fake property challans, the Excise and Taxation Department will sign an agreement with National Bank of Pakistan to establish a property tax collection system, The Express Tribune has learnt.

According to the department, many fake challans were submitted with the National Bank of Pakistan, the only establishment for the submission of property tax. Fake challans were made on the format of originals, but with lesser property tax than originally determined by the Excise department.

It said that a copy of paid challans was submitted to the Excise and Taxation Department, creating difficulties in determining the loss of revenue. They said that a data of challan submission was then shared with the department after three months.

They said that after the agreement, the data of challans would be shared online with the Excise and Taxation Department to identify fake challans. According to a copy of the agreement available with The Express Tribune, taxpayers will bring new computer-generated challan forms issued by the department. The cashier will generate a unique identification number of challan form in the system or can use the barcode reader machine to have access to the particular record of the Excise and Taxation Office.

After confirming that the challan form data matched with the display data of the system, the cashier would then put in the requisite information and post the transaction in the profile system.
