KARACHI: A garment factory in the New Karachi area was gutted in a fire that broke out late on Tuesday night.

According to fire brigade officials, upon receiving the information, two fire tenders were immediately rushed to the factory located near Nala Stop in New Karachi. However, the two tenders could not extinguish the blaze and later at least eight more fire tenders were sent to the site.

More than nine fire tenders, with three water bowsers and a snorkel, participated in the extinguishing work, said a fire brigade spokesperson. The blaze erupted late Tuesday night and it took hectic efforts of more than two dozen firefighters to control it. The fire was doused Wednesday morning.

The factory administration claimed that the fire broke out on the rooftop of the factory and engulfed the entire factory. It accused the fire brigade of arriving late and using delaying tactics.

The fire brigade spokesperson rejected the administration's claims, maintaining that the fire brigade vehicles reached the site in a timely manner. The spokesperson added that no loss of life was reported as all the workers were safely evacuated from the factory.
