‘New initiative will improve public sector hospitals’

Minister says improvement has occurred by outsourcing non-clinical facilities

LAHORE: A visible improvement can be seen in the public sector hospitals in Punjab since new initiatives and reforms were introdcued, said Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir.

He was speaking at the monthly conference of medical superintendents of districts and tehsil headquarters hospitals at a local hotel on Sunday. The minister said that Punjab has best healthcare facilities in the country and the critics should visit hospitals of other provinces before making criticism on the healthcare system of the province.

The meeting reviewed the performance and steps taken for hepatitis, TB and dengue control at the grassroots level. Moreover, the meeting reviewed the implementation of Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS), provision of medicines, cleanliness and hygiene conditions, infection control, staff attendance and disciplinary matters.

Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan directed the medical superintendents to take effective steps to control the incidents of violence in hospitals for which disciplinary steps should be taken as well as counseling of attendants of the patients should be focused.

Nazir said it was the first time in the history of the province that high-quality medicines were provided in the public sector hospitals in Punjab. He observed that by outsourcing the non-clinical facilities, a lot of improvement had occurred in the system of hospitals.
