ISLAMABAD: The registrations of seven non-functional housing societies in the capital were cancelled between 2016-17.

Moreover, as many as 13 new non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were registered, while registration of 471 non-functional firms and NGOs were cancelled. This was disclosed by officials in a meeting with the Islamabad Chief Commissioner Zulfiqar Haider to review the performance of the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA).

Officials of the Cooperative Societies department said that 27 housing societies had held annual general meetings and elections in the past year.

Registration of seven non-functional societies was cancelled and cases of 183 housing societies were decided. Moreover, possession of 530 plots was given to members of societies. Audit of four housing societies was completed.

With regards to implementing food safety laws in the capital, Haider was told that 216 people were prosecuted for violating provisions of the Pure Food Ordinance, while FIRs were registered against suspects. Fines amounting to Rs7.23 million were imposed.

The labour department of ICTA imposed fines worth Rs2 million on factories for violating labour laws. Moreover, 12,000 daily wages workers were provided relief under the minimum wage laws. Further, 31 cases were registered against those involved in forced labour.

The health department of ICTA treated 753,900 patients free of cost. Additionally, the ICTA issued 32,072 domiciles and 7,871 international driving licences in 2016-17.

The administration registered 720 firms during this period. The agriculture department brought 250 acres of land under cultivation in the rural areas over the past year.

The livestock department treated 328,039 cattle heads in the rural areas, vaccinating animals against seasonal diseases. Work on 27 development schemes for agriculture and livestock was completed.
