Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan said on Saturday that the Panama Papers case and its judgment had caused a lot of trouble for the Sharif family but still there were some “thieves and dacoits” in Parliament.

Addressing a public meeting, he said there would be a high-tension match today (Sunday) in NA-120 and the people had to decide who they would support: the judiciary or the ‘biggest looters’ of the country.

He said the PTI’s success in the by-election in the National Assembly constituency from Lahore would lay the foundation of a ‘new Pakistan’ and the corrupt group would be defeated. He said corruption was eating into the foundations of the country like termite.

The people of Khushab had awakened politically and they wanted change, he said, adding that he was aware of the issues faced by the local people.

Khan said countries which became independent after Pakistan had made a lot of progress and gone far ahead of it. “Our rulers are becoming richer and the people are getting poorer day by day. This is just because of the corruption.”

He said if former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s family had built a good hospital, they would not have to go abroad for treatment. “Maryam says that the family does not have any property abroad as well as at home, while Hussain proudly says that they own London flats,” he said about Sharif’s daughter and son.

He said only the poor had been put in jails in Pakistan and he saluted the Supreme Court for the accountability of the powerful. He said the PTI had got its first opportunity to form a government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and poverty in that province had been reduced by a margin five times higher than Punjab.

Malik Umer Aslam Awan and other leaders also addressed the gathering.

The PTI chairman tweeted later that a “record-breaking crowd” had gathered “to show support for the judiciary against a corrupt mafia”.

Hasan | 7 years ago | Reply I voted for him last year until he committed political suicide. If one points the finger at another on the basis of ETHICS (corruption, not being sadiq & ameen etc.) then one better be a model of uprightness himself; Otherwise it becomes just another exercise in greed and lust for power. If (ethics) is the measure of a man here, then let he who is without blame cast the first stone. If he owns up to his third child and gives it a father's name, then by god we will follow him. Life is not so simple after all.
