SUKKUR: A delegation of the Sukkur Builders Association, led by Haji Haroon Memon, met Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Sheikh to share their concerns over the increase in fee of the placement and clean up of material.
“During the construction of buildings, the fee charged by Sukkur district officials for the placement and clean up of material is nominal, due to which we have decided to increase its, however, the final decision will be taken after the Sukkur Municipal Corporation reviews it,” explained Sheikh.

The delegation comprised Muhammad Hanif Memon, Malik Ghayasudin, Pervaiz Awaan, Zahid Chaudhary and others. Haroon discussed the issues faced by builders and said, “Builders have an important role in Sukkur’s development”. Construction work creates job opportunities for people and results in the creation of something new for people to stay in or look forward to, he said.
The construction material is placed on a construction site for a small duration and is later picked up while the roads, streets and lanes are cleaned. Similarly, tractors and trollies to lift the rubble are arranged on an immediate basis in case of demolition of a building. All this is done to keep the streets and lanes debris-free and clear.

During this work, a fee of Rs5,000 is charged on major construction projects, while for minor projects, a sum of Rs2,000 is charged. The money is submitted to a bank through a challan.
‘’If the Sukkur Municipal Corporation unwarrantedly increases the fee, we will decide our strategy after consulting our lawyers’’ said Haroon.
“Sukkur is our city and we should work for its development. The funds collected in the district are spent on the welfare of the city. We have decided to increase the fee but will take the concerns of the builders into consideration,” he said.
