KARACHI: At least three suspects were killed during two alleged encounters with the police in parts of the city on Monday.

Two alleged criminals were killed in SITE Super Highway while another was gunned down within the limits of Brigade police station.

Four armed criminals were reportedly mugging citizens near Super Highway when a citizen, Rizwan, sent a complaint to the police via police helpline Madadgar 15. According to Malir SSP Rao Anwar, the robbers opened fire on the police team when it reached the site. Two of the suspects were killed when the police returned the fire, while the other two managed to escape under the cover of fire. The police also claimed to have recovered arms, ammunition and stolen valuables from the possession of the deceased suspects.

The bodies were shifted to Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for want of identification after the medico-legal formalities were completed at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Separately, an encounter took place between the police and alleged street criminals at Water Ground, Lines Area. According to the police, a street criminal, who has yet to be identified, was killed during the encounter while two of his accomplices managed to flee. The police also claimed to have seized a pistol and motorcycle from the killed suspect.

Cases were registered against the suspects, while further investigations are under way.
