These schools and colleges are being provided modern facilities such as washrooms, new classrooms, white boards, filtration plant, water coolers apart from getting a new coat of paint.
The upgradation and maintenance work is being carried out under the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme.
Dr Tariq Masood, the coordinator for the PM’s Education Reforms Programme, said that in the first phase of the programme, around 23 schools had been renovated, while rehabilitation work on over 200 schools is expected to be completed by next month.
He added that the federal government was focusing on providing facilities to schools and colleges located in the rural areas under Phase-II of the reforms programme.
The coordinator further said that upgradation work on the remaining 200 educational institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) – located mostly in the urban areas – will be completed in Phase-III of the programme which is expected to be completed until December. He added that they had built new washrooms and sanitation facilities in around 223 public schools and colleges, especially girls schools, in ICT.
Masood further said that the PC-I for the third phase of the PM’s Education Reforms Programme is being completed to improve results of the public educational institutions of the federal capital.
