Rs66m fund approved for 273 public colleges of Sindh

Institutes directed to stop charging fees from students

KARACHI: Provincial finance department has approved a fund of Rs66 million for 273 government colleges operating in Sindh.
After directing the colleges to stop charging tuition and admission fees from students, a summary was sent to the finance department, prepared by the Sindh College Education Secretary Pervaiz Sehar, which has been approved.



According to Sehar, a fee of Rs550 from first year intermediate students and Rs510 from second year intermediate students was being charged. However, under the Free Education for all Act, colleges have been barred from taking this collective amount from students, due to which, college administration had been demanding funds to run college affairs.
Funds amounting Rs66 million for 273 colleges was demanded by Sindh directorate of education. This amount would be transferred to the department of college education, which, through directorate general colleges, will be passed on to regional directorate, where relevant colleges would be able to derive their funds.



An amount of Rs60.6 million was demanded by Sindh colleges directorate-general for 0.3 million students of intermediate. Total enrolment of 0.15 million intermediate students was recorded by government colleges in Karachi. According to the approved summary, government colleges in the city will be allotted a sum Rs31.5 million.
