Community elders to monitor police stations

IG says K-P has already started Police Accountability System

ABBOTTABAD: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police is going to launch a system empowering communities to monitor the police stations in their localities which will improve the public service delivery.

Police are being made accountable to the general public after the approval of Police Act 2017, K-P IG Salahuddin Mehsud said at a public awareness programme of Abbottabad police at K-P House late on Friday evening.



A safety commission will be set up in every district in which notables and elders with good repute will be included. These community representatives will be empowered to raid the police stations, monitor police procurements and discuss law and order and crime issues with the authorities.

Regional Complaint Authority will be also constituted from the members of treasury and opposition benches of the provincial assembly. The authority will act as watchdog of the police system on district level and also play part of third party forum for resolving complaints through mediation.

The IG added that K-P have already started the Police Accountability System (PAS) for the last couple of years and till date more 7,00 police officials and staff has been penalised which includes more than 900 senior officers.



He also lauded the role and efforts of Pak Army who had done marvellous job in implementing the writ of law on provincial borders, frontier regions and the tribal areas.

IGP also addressed the police Darbar on Saturday at Jalal Baba Auditorium and had distributed prizes and certificates among the officers and staff of Hazara police and later inaugurated the new conference hall at DIG Hazara office.
