Three officials convicted over corruption

Two contractors awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment

SARGODHA: Special judge of an anti-corruption court awarded 65 years collective rigorous imprisonment and fine to three officials, including an executive engineer of highways over corruption charges.

Anti-Corruption Establishment Director Asim Raza said two contractors - Azizullah and Sanaullah - embezzled millions of rupees in collusion with some officials in the construction of Mianwali Road. He added Highways XEN Gul Asghar and managers Wasim Ahmad Khan and Zeeshan were also involved in misappropriation of funds.



He maintained the accused withdrew security money of Rs42.50 million from the bank using fraud practices. A case was lodged with the police and the court, after finding them guilty, awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment each to Azizullah and Sanaullah, along with collective fine of Rs100.3 million. The court also awarded 25 years rigorous imprisonment to XEN Gul Asghar and a fine of Rs3.5 million.
