SHABQADAR, CHARSADDA: Three members of a family, including a tribal elder, were gunned down by unidentified men in the Haleemzai area of Mohmand Agency late Thursday night.

An official of the political administration confirmed the killing of tribal elder Sadiq Shah, his wife and his son, Yaseen Khan. He added that the gunmen had barged into Sadiq’s house and shot him, his wife and son to death in the Shani Khel area of Haleemzai, located some five km west of Ghallanai, the agency headquarters.

They added that the murders were being considered as target killings.

A resident of the area, who spoke to The Express Tribune, said that unidentified gunmen had entered Sadiq’s house with the motive to abduct Yaseen Khan. The men entered the house and closed the women of the family in their rooms. However, Sadiq and his wife resisted their attempts to abduct Yaseen.

Upon resistance, the gunmen murdered Sadiq and his family.

Following the killings, the political administration imposed a curfew in most parts of the agency on Friday and launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits. So far, no arrests have been made.

Due to the curfew the main Ekka Ghund Ghallanai and Mian Mandi markets of the agency were closed while transport services from Bajaur to Peshawar were suspended till Friday evening.

This is not the first time that Sadiq’s family has been attacked. A few years ago Malak Wilayat Shah, Sadiq’s brother, was also killed by unidentified men in front of his house.

Although the reason behind the killing could not be determined but sources in the political administration revealed that the family had no personal enmity and Malak’s killing was target killing.
