MULTAN: A woman was thrashed and then set on fire by her husband and in-laws over a domestic dispute on Saturday in Rahim Yar Khan.

Hajra Bibi, 30, had an argument with her husband, Muhammad Shareef. The husband, in a fit of rage, beat up Hajra until she fell unconscious to the ground.

Believing Hajra had succumbed to her injuries, Shareef and her in-laws doused her with kerosene oil and set her ablaze.

On hearing her screams, the neighbours rushed to Hajra's rescue.

Zahir Pir SHO Chaudhry Azhar Iqbal told The Express Tribune that the woman had been shifted to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.

Police have taken Hajra's father-in-law Mushtaq Ahmad and mother-in-law Chandan Mai into custody. However, Shareef is still at large.

Hajra has suffered severe burn injuries and her condition is serious.
