US firms to explore new initiatives in health sector

The companies will participate in upcoming tenders of biomedical equipment

LAHORE: Primary and Secondary Health Department (P&SHD) Secretary Ali Jan Khan has said the USA would extend technical assistance in setting up latest Health Information Management System (HIMS) and improvement in hospital management in the province.

He expressed these views during a meeting with US Commercial Counselor in Pakistan Stephen P Knode who called on him at his office on Friday to discuss new health initiatives by P&SHD. He said the USA and the Punjab government could explore possible opportunities of cooperation in the field of health sector in the context of a broad-based health reforms agenda by the department.

US Counselor Stephen said his country would extend technical assistance in setting up latest Health Information Management System (HIMS) and improvement in hospital management in Punjab. He also expressed interest in bringing firms to participate in upcoming tenders of biomedical equipment.

Ali briefed the guests about the new initiatives taken by P&SHD in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The US commercial counselor appreciated the new initiatives taken by the department and hospitality of the people of Punjab. He assured cooperation by the US government in uplifting the health sector in the Punjab.

Stephen said the US would extend cooperation for better disease control by CDC Atlanta. The need for a comprehensive and effective Disease Early Warning System also came under discussion.

Commercial Specialist US Consulate General Lahore Andrew Doehler, Commercial Specialist Aftab Qamar, Hassan Raza Economic Specialist and Mauaz Raza Economic Specialist US Consulate General were also present in the meeting.
