ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah has demanded of National Assembly Speaker to provide him with complete transcript of the statement of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif delivered on the floor of the house on May 16 in response to the Panama leaks about his offshore assets.

The opposition leader said that the premier had claimed in his speech that he had all documentary evidence of his properties in London and factories in Dubai and Jeddah.

“The prime minister had also promised to make a parliamentary committee to conduct accountability of corrupt persons; however, neither the parliamentary committee was formed nor any record provided,” Khursheed said while talking to newsmen in his chamber at the Parliament House on Thursday.

Opposition’s Panama inquiry bill shot down in NA

Mentioning that the documents submitted on Wednesday had already been submitted to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), Khursheed said it is a fact that the Sharif family had no valid documents to submit in the apex court.

“The Sharifs are trying to hush up the matter as they have no proof,” said the opposition leader. “The premier is attempting to buy time to inaugurate incomplete projects.”

About record-tampering, he said the Federal Investigation Agency and National Accountability Bureau proved that Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Zafar Hijazi tampered with the record of the Sharif family’s companies.

Khursheed was of the view that nothing had been done against the person on whose directives Hijazi tampered with the record.

Khursheed grilled the PML-N, saying, “Instead of submitting an appropriate answer in the Supreme Court, they are attacking institutes.”

Resolution seeks Hijazi’s sacking

Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) submitted a resolution in the National Assembly seeking termination of the chairman of SECP from service.

The resolution stated that Hijazi had been found guilty of record-tampering of companies owned by the Sharif family.

“As a result of the investigation of FIA in which record-tampering had been proven, an FIR has already been registered against Hijazi. He wrongly used his powers as SECP chairman and is no longer capable to work on the position. The house demands the government to immediately terminate his services,” the content of the resolution read.

Dr Nafisa Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar and some other parliamentarians signed the resolution.
