43,000 candidates appear for admission tests across Punjab

LAHORE: As many as 43,000 prospective candidates seeking admissions in engineering programmes in universities of Punjab appeared for the admission tests on Sunday. Twelve test centres were established in different cities of Punjab, along with Lahore and Islamabad.

The entry tests were held under the auspices of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore for the admissions in BSc Engineering programmes in the universities of Punjab and affiliated colleges of UET in the BSc Technology programmes.

According to details, examination centres were established in 14 different parts of Punjab, including UET, where the entry tests were held simultaneously. The tests started at 10am and ended at 11:40am.

At UET Lahore, 13,431 candidates appeared for the test, 6,241 in Multan, 5,412 in Islamabad, 4,475 in Faisalabad, 3,065 in Kala Shah Kaku, 2,533 in Taxila, 2,342 in Gujrat, 2,065 in Sahiwal, 1,795 in Bahawalpur, 1,083 in Rahim Yar Khan, 784 in Mianwali and 494 candidates in Rasool took the tests. The result of the entry tests was expected to be declared on Sunday (July 23), while the answer key was made public on the UET’s website.

Speaking to media, UET Vice Chancellor Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said, “Merit, secrecy and transparency have been ensured in UET entry examinations. Necessary arrangements for security of candidate have also been made”.

He said that future jobs were linked with acquiring and implementing technical education and considering the requirements of the CPEC project, thousands of engineers from different fields will be in high demand in the near future. “That is why lucrative job opportunities are waiting for engineering professionals.”

Furthering Research: UET, MCE sign agreement  

He said that UET had been devising curriculum according to the needs of the industry, along with creating linkages with the industry to attain meaningful partnership to deal with the upcoming challenges.

Dr Fazal visited the examination centre and appreciated administration for its excellent arrangements. Special sitting arrangements were also made for parents of the candidates during the test.

UET administration will organize a two-day event on July 27 and 28 for proper carrier planning and counselling of successful students, he said. “This open day will enable students to familiarize themselves with the facilities available in different faculties of the university. It will also help them to choose proper engineering discipline favouring their aptitude,” he concluded.
