ABBOTTABAD: A minor boy died after he was tied to a donkey and dragged through an Abbottabad field by a landlord.

The landlord has since been arrested and a judge has sent him on two-days physical remand.

Muzzamil Sher Afzal was playing with his donkey in the Kangar Mera area when the mule inadvertently entered the field of farmer Miskeen alias Jheenga on Wednesday.

This angered Miskeen who grabbed the boy and tied him to the donkey to teach the boy a lesson. The landlord then struck the donkey so that it would run fast. The donkey ran through the field and over a rocky patch.

After being dragged for a while, the boy suffered multiple injuries to his head and body.

The grievously injured boy was later shifted to the Rural Health Centre in Lora in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries later that day.

Angered over the way the boy had been treated by the landlord, causing his death, locals blocked a road in protest. It was not until senior police officials took notice of the incident and assured the family of lodging a formal complaint and arresting the culprit that the road was cleared.

Abbottabad District Police Officer Syed Ashfaq Anwar, while confirming the boy’s death, said that they had lodged an FIR against the landlord and had arrested him.

The DPO added that he would investigate the case himself and assured the family of the boy that justice would be done.

Later an autopsy of the boy was carried out at the Havelian Rural Health Centre and the body was handed over to the family for burial.

During initial questioning, the landlord told police that he was angry over how goats and donkeys frequently trespass into his field and eat the vegetables and other crops he was growing. He said that he had time and again asked the boy to keep his donkey away from his farm.

Later on Thursday, Miskeen was presented before a civil judge who approved a two-day remand for him.
