ISLAMABAD: Most of the opposition parties, except two smaller groups, were convinced that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would abdicate his office after the report submitted by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Sharif family overseas assets, but the assemblies should complete their full term.

Opposition parties represented in parliament convened their first huddle after the report of six-member probe team constituted by the Supreme Court became public on July 10.

Is JIT report the end of Maryam Nawaz's political ambitions?

Held in the chamber of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, opposition parties agreed to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) proposal that current assemblies should complete their full five year term, ending by mid of next year.

Opposition groups further said they believe accountability and democracy should move simultaneously. They also vowed to support the Supreme Court.
