GILGIT: A local court in Gilgit on Friday sentenced a man to serve two years in prison while a Rs50,000 fine was also imposed after he was found guilty of illegal logging in the Gasho Forest. The court presided over by Forest Magistrate Aftab Mehmood, heard arguments from the petitioner and defence counsel. After listening to both sides, the magistrate convicted Fanood for illegally cutting down 500 trees with modern machines in the Gasho Forest in February 2017. After sentencing him two-years in prison, the convict was sent to the district jail. Earlier, the court had issued an arrest warrant for Fanood after police registered an FIR against him.
