ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday contacted senior officials of the Army, Rangers and Frontier Corps to obtain details of the Friday’s terrorist attacks in Parachinar, Quetta and Karachi.

The minister contacted Chief of General Staff Lt-Gen Bilal Akbar, DG Rangers Sindh Maj-Gen Muhammad Saeed and Inspector General FC Balochistan Maj-Gen Nadeem Ahmed separately over the telephone.

During the conversation, Nisar expressed concern that despite being warned of the plans of attack in Quetta and Parachinar, no preventive measures were taken.

He paid tributes to the police officials who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks. He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the attacks and said the motive of the attacks, just two days before Eid, was to create uncertainty and chaos in the country.

The minister reiterated that such cowardly acts could not dampen the spirit of the nation or the ongoing counter-terror operations. He said the security forces would respond to all such acts with determination and full force.

He stressed the need for effective monitoring of the borders to check the cross-border movement of the terrorists. He also instructed the officials to ensure foolproof security arrangements to maintain peace on Eid.

On Friday, a suicide car bomber killed at least 13 people, including seven police officers, in an attack near a checkpoint in Quetta. Moreover, two back-to-back blasts in Parachinar, the main town of Kurram tribal agency, left 67 people dead. Hours after the two attacks, gunmen shot dead four policemen in Karachi.

The interior minister was, meanwhile, briefed by IG FC Balochistan Maj-Gen Nadeem Ahmed over a raid carried out by the paramilitary force on the outskirts of Quetta on Friday, killing two ‘senior militants’ of a terrorist organisation.

The IG FC informed the minister that the militants – identified as Nazar Muhammad alias Bairag and Muhammad Jan alias Chhota Laila – were involved in attacks on the Quaid-e-Azam Residency Ziarat, Quetta Express and the law enforcement officials.

During the briefing, Nisar lauded the FC personnel taking part in the raid.

The IG FC also briefed the minister over the death of a police official who was run over by a Balochistan Assembly lawmaker.
