PBTA shows up at blood banks

Licenses of blood banks will not be renewed until matters were rectified.

Secretary Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority Dr Muhammad Athar paid surprise visits to different blood banks of city hospitals, including Arif Memorial Hospital, Model Lab, Hameed Latin Hospital, Farooq Hospital and INMOL Hospital.

The working of Hameed Latif hospital Blood unit was found up to be up to standard. However, the workings of the Arif Memorial Hospital and Farooq Hospital blood banks were unsatisfactory.

Illegal blood banks spreading disease

Dr Athar said observation letters to these hospitals would be issued and licenses of these blood banks will not be renewed until matters were rectified.

Also, the licence of Model Lab would be cancelled due to poor working conditions.

There was also a severe shortage of staff at the INMOL Hospital blood bank.

Several illegal blood banks, yet to register with the PBTA, are continuing to function throughout the city.
