LAHORE: National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) spokesperson has said that a preliminary investigation shows that both 500kV transmission lines emanating from the Hubco Power Plant did not trip on transmission fault, but due to a transfer trip signal.
According to a press release, the NTDC has requested Hubco authorities to investigate the matter that resulted in the loss of generation to the grid.
As a result, the southern system was subjected to under frequency and Jamshoro Power Plant also tripped which led to power breakdown in K-Electric and HESCO (Hyderabad Electric Supply Company) areas in the early hours of Sunday.
“Engineers managed to energise 220kV KDA 33-Jamshoro power system and 500kV Karachi-NKI-Hubco power system at 0430 hours in a shortest possible time,” the spokesperson said. “Later, unit number four of Hubco power plant was connected with 500 kV NKI grid station at 0700 hours.”
The power system was gradually normalised with the additions of power units of Hubco and Jamshoro plants.
“The Ministry of Water and Power has commended the efforts of ground formations of NTDC, HESCO and National Power Construction Corporation on immediate restoration of system which normally takes much longer time,” the spokesperson said.
“Immediate restoration and linking of tripped lines was achieved within shortest span of two hours and the generation facilities at Jamshoro and Hubco started generation which gradually increased as per the standard technical specifications,” the spokesperson added.
