PSDP 2017-18: Govt allocates Rs812m for 27 projects of info ministry

Rs637 million has been earmarked for 15 new schemes including one related to turning PTV into HD

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated Rs811.788 million for the 27 projects of the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for 2017-18. Last year, the amount allocated for the ministry’s 22 projects was of Rs116 million.

Out of this total Rs811.78million, Rs174 million has been allocated for the 12 ongoing projects while Rs637 million has been earmarked for 15 new schemes. Many of these schemes are related to upgrading of state-run Pakistan Television (PTV).

These new schemes include a project for transforming the production and transmission of PTV News into high definition or HD channel and changing the satellite transmission from PTV Home to DVB-SD2 with H.264/H.265 Compression. An amount of Rs20 million has been allocated for this upgrading.

PTV Global to be converted into children’s TV network

An amount of Rs10 million has been allocated for security measures and revamping of news operations in Islamabad and all provincial capitals. An amount of Rs10 million has been allocated for establishing channel ranking and data centre.

For the establishment of digitalised archive library at Islamabad’s F-5/1 sector an amount of Rs10 million has been allocated.

A National Film Academy will also be established at Islamabad’s H-9 sector with an amount of Rs20 million.  For the replacement of equipment of studio and control room for the PTV Academy an amount of Rs50 million has been allocated.

Among the ongoing schemes, the government has allocated Rs50 million for 100KW Gwadar’s projects, Rs19 million for rebroadcast station in Kharan area of Balochsitan and Rs14 million for a rebroadcast station in Bar Khan area.
