OUR CORRESPONDENT: The police on Friday arrested over half-a-dozen suspects for firing at the employees of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and grabbing its land.

According to the police, the security guards of a private security company had resorted on Thursday to indiscriminate firing at the employees of the KWSB at Karsaz within the limits of Sharae Faisal police station, where the latter had gone to reoccupy a disputed land of the KWSB. No casualty had been reported in the incident.

The KWSB officials registered a complaint with the police after which the law enforcers reached the site on Friday and arrested a suspect, Talha, who is the son of one of the alleged land grabbers, along with his eight security guards. The police registered cases against them for occupying the land illegally and harassing and attacking the KWSB employees.

Sharae Faisal SHO Muhammad Israr said there is a dispute between the KWSB and two men, Naseem and Iqbal, over the land and the matter is in the court. He added that Talha, the arrested suspect, is the son of Naseem. The officer said the police have also seized nearly a dozen arms from the security guards while a contingent has also been deployed at the disputed land to avoid any similar untoward incident in future. Further investigations are underway.
