KARACHI:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) women’s wing will hold a training camp in Lahore for the Sri Lanka-bound squad in order to prepare it for the quadrangular series that starts from April 21 in Colombo.

The series will be the first international event for the team after its gold-winning Asian Games campaign last November. While the start date of the camp is still not finalised, team manager Ayesha Asher confirmed it would be this week with the squad to be named on April 17.

Pakistan will open their campaign against the hosts with Ireland and Netherlands the other teams taking part in the event.

“We’re trying to set up a camp as soon as possible and will make sure that the talented players get selected,” Asher told The Express Tribune. “Our target is to prepare a team for the 2013 World Cup qualifiers and we will take all the events in between as a practice for that.”

Meanwhile, captain Sana Mir said that the team will be focusing on performing well against the hosts who will be tough to beat at home. She added that there might not be huge changes in the squad but new players may be included.

Mir also dismissed of the notion that Pakistan managed to win the Asian Games gold because Sri Lanka and India were not taking part.
