PARACHINAR: At least two officials of the political administration were killed when their car came under attack in Kurram Agency late on Saturday night.

Political agent Muharrar Sarfaraz Hussain and his security guard Mumtaz Hussain were on a routine patrol when their vehicle was targetted in Tangi Khwar area of the agency near the Pak-Afghan border, an official told The Express Tribune on Sunday.

The official said it could not be immediately ascertained if the deceased were fired upon from across the border. However, he added, investigations were initiated to identify and arrest the suspects.

Massive US bomb damaged houses in Kurram

Kurram has seen a surge in violence in the last couple of months after a brief respite in terror attacks. As many as three security men had been injured in the same area when they were fired upon from the Afghan side of the border two days ago.

The growing influence of Islamic State — a global terror outfit, across the border has been a matter of concern for local authorities who have lately taken stringent security measures in the area.

The agency remained the only area on the Pakistani side where houses were damaged when the United States dropped the Mother of All Bombs (MOAB) in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province to target IS hideouts.
