Taking lead: UVAS students shine in co-curricular competitions

University’s drama society-Natak Mandli-won five awards out of nine categories.

LAHORE: Students of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore won different competitions in the city on Monday.

The drama society Natak Mandli of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore got first position in All Pakistan Co-Curricular Competitions with the best play award in All Pakistan Drama Competition. The event was jointly organised by the Higher Education Commission, National Accountability Bureau and The Educationist.

The title of the Urdu drama was ‘Paansa’ which won five awards out of nine categories:  best play, best director, best production, best technical and best actor negative role. Earlier, Natak Mandli also participated in drama and competitions organised by the Information and Culture Department Punjab and won first position in both the competitions. The UVAS students also received awards of best production and best script.

The UVAS Business School students also took part in DICE Business Idea Competition held at National Textile University Faisalabad. BBA (Hons) students won Sponsor's Award (a shield and cash prize worth Rs20,000. Over 60 universities participated in the competition with more than 100 teams.

Similarly, UVAS literary society ‘Qirtas’ participated in Annual Olympiad, 2017 in Lahore. Ifrah Irshad secured first position in poem presentation, Nabbia Khalid first position in poster competition, Abdul Wahab got 2nd position in poster competition while Ifrah Irshad got 3rd position in on-spot sketching.

Meanwhile, the UVAS Debating Society won various positions in All Pakistan Debates Competition. Uzma Malik of Department of Human Nutrition and Food Sciences got first position in the contest held at Fatimah Jinnah Medical College and Hassan Shakoor of IBBT got 2nd position in the debates held at Nazaria-e-Pakistan Trust.

The UVAS team participated in All Pakistan Third Intervarsity Jiu-Jitsu Men Championship held at University of Agriculture Faisalabad and won seven bronze medals with 52 points.
