ISLAMABAD:

Senate Standing Committee on Health along with Khalid Hanif, Additional Secretary Health on Tuesday visited Polyclinic Hospital to negotiate with Young Doctors Association (YDA).

Addressing the issues of the doctors, the senators told the YDA that there were a few posts of doctors available on the federal level and by following proper criteria these could be had. Responding to their demand for a service structure, the senators said it already exists.

They assured YDA that the Ministry of Health will do whatever it can, however matters beyond it, will be taken to the parliament.

The ministry is expected to devolve on June 30 and the charge will then be handed over to the cabinet division. Chairperson Senate Standing Committee Kulsoom Parveen said that after ‘Black Coat Campaign’, a ‘White Coat Campaign’ has been started against the establishment. “Therefore the government should take this matter seriously,” she said.

A committee of doctors was established to make recommendations and present them to the standing committee on health. Meanwhile, doctors continued their boycott, with YDA of Pims announcing a strike on Wednesday. The boycott in the emergency ward in a Pindi hospital led to the death of one woman.
