Biomass for industry: Policy recommendations finalised
A workshop was organised by the UNIDO in collaboration the AEDB
Stakeholders have finalised recommendations on using biomass technologies in Pakistani industries. This was done in a workshop organised by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB). Recognising the need for tapping all possible energy sources, especially renewable sources such as biomass, UNIDO is implementing a Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded project called the “Promoting Sustainable Energy Production & Use from Biomass in Pakistan”. The workshop had over 70 participants including representatives from AEDB, NEPRA, provincial energy departments, the private sector and academia. The proposals would be submitted to the AEDB for implementation. AEDB chief Amjad Ali Awan stressed that such events were important for sharing knowledge. UN Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne described biomass as a huge resource for Pakistan with immense benefits.
