On Tuesday, the body of the ill-fated girl was taken to her native village, Urs Solangi, situated some 10 kilometres away from Tharu Shah, for burial, after which the girl's father is expected to register an FIR. On contact, the officials at Tharu Shah police station confirmed the arrest of the accused and said that the suspect's father, wife and sister are still in custody. The police are waiting for the victim's family to register an FIR, the police officials said.

The victim, a resident of Abro Muhalla, was set on fire when she was on her way home after playing with her friends when Shaikh lured her into his house on Monday. Shaikh allegedly tried to sexually assault the girl, at which point she screamed for help.

Shaikh panicked and set her on fire after pouring petrol on her and fled the scene. Local residents rushed to the deserted house after hearing the girl's screams and, after extinguishing the fire, shifted her to Tharo Shah Hospital. However, there was no doctor to attend to her. Later, as she was being shifted to Civil Hospital, Naushero Feroz, the girl succumbed to her wounds.
