JI to stage fresh sit-ins against K-Electric from April 11 across Karachi

Protests will be held district-wise across the city on separate days

KARACHI: Not willing to end their protests against K-Electric's (K-E) increased tariff, overbilling and fuel adjustment charges, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has pledged to stage fresh sit-ins district-wise from April 11.



Rehman, addressing a press conference a day after ending their sit-in outside K-E's head office on Friday, said that in order to generate a new momentum in their campaign against the private utility company, they will go to every nook and cranny of the city and will involve the public. For this purpose, he pledged to use their social media power too.

As many as 2,000 corner meetings will be arranged for this campaign, he said, adding that the first sit-in will be held in District East at Sharae Quaideen in front of K-E's office on April 11 at 5pm. The second will be on April 14 at Habib Bank Chowrangi in District West, the third in District Central's North Nazimabad area on April 18 while on April 20 they will arrange a sit-in at Landhi's Babar Market.



The last sit-in, Rahman said, will be on April 22 in front of Governor House. "It's the main responsibility of the federal government to provide people with power and gas," he said, adding that Pakistan Peoples Party government is in power in Sindh and should address to these acts by K-E.

The first sit-in was organised on Sharae Faisal on March 31 but due to violation of Section 144, the protest was called off and Rehman, along with other leaders, was arrested by the police.
