PESHAWAR: The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) will not compromise on the rights of the Pashtuns, warned the party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Friday.

Sherpao vowed that his party would try its level best to remove the growing sense of deprivation of Pashtuns. “We urge the federal government to acknowledge the sacrifices of the Pashtuns instead of subjecting them to humiliation and harassment,” he demanded, while speaking at a news conference at Watan Kor.

The QWP chief said Pashtuns have made great sacrifices for the restoration of peace, but their services have been ignored.  He added that whenever an act of subversion took place, the Pashtuns are harassed, which was great injustice.

Sherpao was accompanied by the QWP’s provincial chairman and senior minister of the provincial government Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, party’s provincial assembly members Bakht Baidar Khan.

Sherpao lamented that unannounced load shedding was being carried out in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa despite the fact that the province generated power more than its requirement. “K-P citizens are facing continuous problems of load shedding despite being self-sufficient.”

The QWP leader said that the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) should have been merged into Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa before the next general election, so that the tribal people could have representation in national and provincial assemblies.

He also asked the federal government to improve relations with Afghanistan, saying that both Islamabad and Kabul should cooperate with each other to bridge the trust deficit, as it will be beneficial for the people of this region.

He also urged the provincial government to play its role in securing the rights of the province. “The provincial government should take up issues of the province’s people with the federal government,” he stressed

On the occasion, Nisatta Union Council Nazim Abdul Rehman Khan jumped ship and decided to join QWP along with his family and supporters. He also reposed confidence in the leadership of Aftab Sherpao and said he would work for the cause of the party and the Pashtuns.
