Baraé Khanom launches its debut Spring/Summer collection titled Rubaiyat

LAHORE: Popular luxury prêt-à-porter label Baraé Khanom launched its debut Spring/Summer collection 2017 titled Rubaiyat. Drawing from an understated aesthetic, Baraé Khanom’s latest collection aims to reintroduce minimalism this summer through its design ethos. With a colour palette celebrating both vibrant and muted tones, Rubaiyat by Baraé Khanom is inspired by raw ethnic beauty found in Pakistani craftsmanship and merged with a uniquely Western style.

The brand takes from the past and pushes it forward. Baraè Khanom, meaning 'for the women of class' in Persian, combines the elegance of traditional Persian craftsmanship with unique contemporary designs. With meticulous consideration taken towards colour, cut, and fabric, each piece from the design house is a work of art that presents its own story and can form an integral part of every Khanom's closet.

The label is the brainchild of Alishia Khan Khattak, who is the brand's Creative Director. Deeply influenced by her Persian heritage, Alishia brings her strong understanding of both classic and modern techniques to each creation. For her, every woman is a woman of class. Every woman is a Khanom.

The brand’s aesthetics and sensibility is par excellence. Each design came from a traditional space and the natural progression of reinvention is what makes Baraé Khanom stand out in the industry. Alishia and her ability to reinvent her designs with every season reiterate her knowledge about the craft.

Speaking about her lawn debut, Alishia told The Express Tribune, “We are delighted to extend Baraé Khanom’s unique ethnic meets western vibe to our summer collection in luxury lawn with our debut this Spring/Summer 2017. We are keen to offer a more deconstructed design sense, introducing absolutely new techniques to enhance the unique identity of one’s traditional lawn outfit. This includes for instance intricate handcrafted ribbon work for the very first time as an embellishment to one’s lawn. We are confident that our product speaks of refined quality with a unique approach.”

Shedding light on the brand’s design philosophy, she said, “The design philosophy is ethnic with the minimalist twist. The basic taste of ethnicity, combined with age old handicraft of ribbon work in day to day wear is extremely unusual to find in the typical lawn nowadays”.

The campaign was shot with an international model and actor Kiran Malik who is currently shooting for her first Pakistani film, Zarrar, opposite Shaan Shahid. “I chose Kiran Malik because she exudes the perfect blend of east and west, bold and coveted at the same time. A progressive woman of now who has not forgotten her Eastern traditions.”

Kiran Malik, who looked ethereal in brand’s campaign stated, “I enjoyed working with team Baraé Khanom and had a wonderful experience. I really like the unique combination of ethnic and modern designs. The high quality of fabric, intricate hand sewn ribbon work and exquisite silk dupattas are pleasing to the aesthetics.”
