QUETTA: Inspector General of Frontier Corps, Balochistan, Major General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum has said that martyrs were assets of the nation whose sacrifices could not be forgotten.

He said this while talking to the family members of Shaheed Commander Abdul Razzaq after conveying condolences to the family.

Maj-Gen Ahmed said Commander Razaq was a brave soldier and son of a great mother who sacrificed his life for the protection of hundreds of other lives.

The IG FC also handed over a cheque of Rs250,000 to the family.

He said that security forces have arrested and killed different terrorists from various parts of the province.

Speaking to the media, the mother of Shaheed Abdul Razzaq said that the Government has not delivered on the promises of financial assistance following the martyrdom of Abdull Razaq.

She said her son was a law-abiding and obedient policeman who preferred his professional life over his private life.

She added that the children and family of Abdul Razzaq had been facing financial issues and appealed to the authorities concerned to assist the family.

The family is facing severe financial constraints owing to the stoppage of his salary and nonpayment of compensation money.

The family is reportedly weighing options for selling their house to treat his nephew who is suffering from cancer.

Abdul Razaq embraced martyrdom on February 13 along with his comrade Abdul Majeed while defusing a bomb at Sariab Road Quetta.

The government had announced to provide full salary until the retirement age and Rs4 million compensation money to the bereaved family. However, after a lapse of two months the compensation money has not been paid.

Mustafa, the brother of Shaheed Abdul Razaq, told the media that they have not been provided the compensation money yet, adding the money of Police and Quaid-e-Azam awards have also not been provided to them which were announced for Shaheed Abdul Razzaq during his lifetime in 2007 and 2010.

He said he had himself tried hard during his lifetime to get this money to treat his 18-year-old nephew who is suffering from brain tumor but to no avail.

Living in a three-compartment congested house at Mekcongi Road of Quetta, the mother of Shaheed commander depicts a picture of anguish and frustration.

She said the numbness of authorities concerned would also eat up the life of her grandson. She said her grandson, Farhan, was initially treated at Quetta but now he is shifted to Islamabad for treatment where bills of thousands of rupees have to be paid, adding this has exhausted the financial resources of the family. She appealed to the government to make arrangements for the treatment of Farhan.
