KARACHI: A court has reserved till April 14 its judgment in the plea for an acquittal filed by National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman Altaf Ahmed Chaudhry.

The additional district and sessions judge (west), Gulshan Ara Chandio, made the decision on Saturday after lawyers from both sides had completed their arguments.

She also adjourned the session as witnesses were absent.

The respondents, including former NHA chairman Farrukh Javed, planning manager Yousuf Barakzai, constructions manager Tehsinul Haq, Syed Najmul Hasan, Engineering Consultants International (Pvt) Limited chairman Zaheer Mirza, and directors Khalid Mirza and Naveed Mirza came to the hearing.

According to an English daily newspaper, the Shershah bridge collapsed on September 1, 2007, six months after its inauguration by the then president General Pervez Musharraf. Six people were killed and several others were injured in the incident.
