Sharjeel Memon to be declared ‘proclaimed offender’

Memon failed to appear in court to face trial despite obtaining pre-arrest bail from the high court

KARACHI:
The process has been initiated to declare the self-exiled PPP leader Sharjeel Inam Memon, as ‘proclaimed offender’ in cases relating to corruption and illegal allotment of lands, the accountability court informed the SHC on Wednesday.

This was stated in a report filed by the presiding officer of the accountability court where NAB has filed two corruption references before the SHC.


The presiding officer said that Memon failed to appear in court to face trial despite obtaining pre-arrest bail from the high court till January 31. Therefore, the process has been initiated to declare him as an absconder and details regarding his properties have also been sought.

Meanwhile, the NAB special prosecutor informed the bench that Memon’s protective bail had expired. Headed by Justice Muhammad Farooq Shah, the bench, however, adjourned hearing till February 17.
