Inept Election Commission

KARACHI: The prime minister acted in an unethical manner when he turned up at the election meeting of fake degree holder Jamshed Dasti.

The Election Commission failed to filter out more than 40 such fraudulent parliamentarians in the last elections. It is time that people raise their voice against the inept and ineffective Election Commission. What good is it if it cannot on its own verify the credentials of candidates? Why does it have to wait for an opponent to raise an objection?

The Election Commission must shed this post office mentality and ask the HEC to verify degrees of all parliamentarians. And those with fake degrees should be removed from assemblies and debarred from all future elections.

Khan | 13 years ago | Reply In a recent newspaper Kanwar Dilshad, the former secretary Election Commission of Pakistan, admitted that 148 MNAs and MPAs are feared to be holding fake degrees. Obviously the Election Commssion did nothing on receipt of such information. It just goes to show that only weak and gutless people are appointed to the Election Commssion. Once I had the occasion to meet with a now retired Election Commissioner while he still held office. It was embarrasing to see how non-commital he was on any issue of consequence. It soon became rather apparent that, as a retired member of the judiciary, his only concern was to hang on to the perks and the importance that that came with it.
