Pacer Nathan Rimmington held his nerve as Melbourne Renegades defeated Brisbane Heat by just one run in a nail-biter at the Gabba on Friday to keep alive their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the ongoing Big Bash League.

Chasing a mammoth target of 199 to win, hosts were in complete control, thanks to some scintillating hitting from their captain Brendon McCullum, who scored 64 off just 40 balls, laced with six fours and three sixes.

He was well-supported by middle-order batsman Joe Burns (35 off 22 balls) and Ben Cutting (35 off 18 balls).

Needing 18 to win off the final over, Burns struck two consecutive sixes of the first two balls and brought his side within touching distance before Rimmington put the brakes and secured a famous victory for the visitors.
