Schoolteacher attacked with acid in Faisalabad

She suffered 40% burn injuries but her condition is out of danger

FAISALABAD: A female schoolteacher was injured in an acid attack over a monetary dispute when she was on her way home within the limits of Chiniot police station on Friday night.

Talking to The Express Tribune Chiniot City police station In-charge Investigation Riaz Hussain said a man identified as Ghulam Murtaza allegedly threw acid on Rubina Kausar, 34, when she heading towards her house in Chak No. 13 Mochewala. The victim suffered burn injuries on her arms and other body parts while the accused fled the crime scene.



The woman was shifted to the Civil Hospital Chiniot where doctors said she suffered around 40% burn injuries and her condition is out of danger.

The woman teaches at a school in Shamsabad and is a mother of four.  “Both the victim and accused work together. They get money from people and help them get jobs,” claimed Riaz, adding Rubina had registered a case against Murtaza some time ago on allegation of fraud and he might have attacked her to take revenge.

“We have received the complaint from the victim but we are waiting for a formal issuance of a medical certificate,” he said.

On the other hand, Muhammad Ismail, brother-in-law of the victim, told the media the accused was being protected by some influential people of the area.



He alleged a day had passed but neither the police registered a case nor made any efforts to initiate preliminary interrogation.

“The police are forcing us not to get a case registered against the accused,” he said, demanding that Chiniot DPO and Punjab chief minister take notice and order the registration of the case and arrest of the suspect.
