LAHORE: A woman and her son were among four passengers killed in a traffic accident in Lahore on Sunday. The victims were travelling on an intra-city van service from Thokar Niaz Baig to Gulshan-e-Ravi when the accident took place in Shera Kot.

At around 5.30am, the passenger van travelling near Babu Sabu Chowk crashed into a fast-moving dumper that was coming from the opposite direction on the one-way.

The passersby gathered at the site and started the rescue while police, Rescue 1122 and Edhi volunteers were also called in. The truck driver fled the scene.

More than a dozen passengers suffered injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced four of them dead. At least six to seven more passengers were said to have severe injuries with several bones broken.

The deceased were identified as Uzma, her son Hamza, Shakeel and Hassan Raza, said investigation officer sub-inspector Muhammad Amin. He added a team had been formed to investigate the case and arrest the absconding driver.
