Five militants killed in exchange of fire in Balochistan's Pishin district

Levies sources say two security personnel were also injured in the firing

QUETTA: At least five terrorists were killed on Monday during an exchange of fire with security forces in the Pishin district of Balochistan.

Levies sources said two security personnel were also injured during the firing. The incident occurred in the Huramzai area of the district, they added.

Ambulances were seen rushing to the scene after the incident to shift the injured to hospitals.



On November 26, Baloch separatists ambushed a survey team of an oil and gas exploration company in a coastal town, killing two security guards.

On November 19, three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and a traffic police constable were shot dead by unknown gunmen while a passerby was injured in a populated area of Quetta.

Further, on October 24, over 60 security personnel were killed and 165 others injured as terrorists stormed New Sariab Police Training College near Quetta.

Three terrorists entered the New Sariab Police Training College, some 13 kilometres away from Quetta city. They headed straight for the hostel where police recruits were sleeping.



Quetta is among the most volatile cities of Balochistan, with police personnel regularly targeted, apparently to fail efforts aimed at restoring law and order in the province.

Pakistan has been battling insurgency since shortly after it decided to ally with the US following its invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Violence has declined in recent years following a series of military offensives in the northwest border areas as well as concerted efforts to block the militants’ sources of funding.

But the remnants of militant groups are still able to carry out periodic bloody attacks, particularly in the northwest.
